News: Delay Implementation of Motorcycle Helmet Law

July 28, 2012 – Due to Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) appeal for more time to inspect helmets pulling in the Philippines, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) directed the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to delay the implementation of  the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009 also known as Republic Act 10054.

DTI asked until the year of the year for the Helmet Law to be reinforced nationwide. This will give their personnel more time to do their jobs inspecting motorcycle/ riding helmets.

DTI added that they want to guarantee that by the end of 2012, all helmets will bear the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) seal issued by the Bureau of Product Standards.

This will also be in favor for all motorcycle owners piling on long queues in DTI offices nationwide just to register their helmets.
